The Greek-French director Constantin Costa-Gavras will receive an honorary award during the presentation of the 31st European Film Awards on December 15th in Seville. The aim was to pay tribute to a person who, with a strong political voice, is not only deeply respected by his colleagues, but also celebrated by the public, announced the European Film Academy.
Costa Gavras, now 85, has created films such as "Music Box – The Whole Truth", "Mad City" and "The Deputy". He is after the fifth director Manoel de Oliveira, Michael Piccoli, Michael Caine and Andrzej Wajda, who received the honorary award.
At the European Film Awards ceremony, the industry honors the best in their field. From an Austrian point of view, 2018 is not a good year. After all, Marie Bäumer is nominated for the German-Austrian co-production "3 Days in Quiberon" on Romy Schneider as Best Actress.
However, in the best film, "Border" by Ali Abbase, "Dogman" by Matteo Garrone, "The Girl" by Lukas Dhont, "The Cold War" by Pawel Pawlikowski and "Happy as Lazzaro" from Alice Rohrwacher compete for the prize. The winners will be elected by more than 3,500 members of the European Film Academy.
