Washington (APA / AFP) – The Finnish fitness app Polar has closed its location function after sensitive data from soldiers and intelligence officials surfaced on the internet. "We can find Western military personnel in Afghanistan on the polar side," security expert Foeke Postma said in a blog after doing research with Dutch correspondent De Correspondent

In just a few clicks, an officer from high rank in an airbase. Nuclear weapons are located. Data was collected from some 6,000 Polar users, including soldiers from various countries, as well as foreign intelligence agents from the FBI and the NSA. The data found included private addresses of US citizens in the Baghdad International Security Zone and Russian soldiers in Crimea.

Polar pointed out that only the data had been published by the users who had activated the place. In January, the Pentagon announced a review of the use of fitness apps by army personnel. Previously, a map of the movement profiles of US soldiers in conflict areas was published by a service of Strava Labs.
