For Veith, the end of career is no longer a problem

Tickets for the Austrian women's ski team at the Alpine Skiing World Championships (in Sweden, as of February 5) are – exaggerated – formulated by the medical department. The team faces a series of serious injuries (see box below right) virtually by itself. The seven and eight failures touch two of the most promising athletes, whose stories of suffering are prolonged.

In less than 24 hours, Stephanie Brunner and Anna Veith suffered serious knee injuries during the giant slalom training in Pozza di Fbada, with a break of six months at a minimum.

"It was just bad luck"

Veith, who has been operated on in Klinikum Hochrum, just like Brunner, is in shock. The cruciate ligament of the right knee, which had already been severely affected during a fall in Sölden in October 2015 (cruciate ligament and tear of the patella), is torn again. The 29-year-old Olympic champion and former world champion does not think about the end of his career yet.

"I'm going to do it quietly, I just need some time to get better and I'm going to work to get better and better, because I know what it means to fight back, and it's up to me Also I did it well twice and of course I can do it again, "said Veith, who is leaving the hospital today. "What happened in Pozza di Fbada was just bad luck, I was very close to the goal, I had to correct slightly then I had a shot, I was pushed in the back and I immediately felt that something was wrong with the knee "Veith described the incident.

"I am happy that the operation went well and that the most important thing for me now is to find peace and I will give my body all the time," said Anna.

"It makes you think"

In the summer, Veith had extended the contract with her main sponsor until 2021, but she had not given up on her promise to stay active for so long. "If life was a wish concert, I could say that, but I have to look year-to-year," Anna said then.

Jürgen Kriechbaum, Race Director for Ladies, puts the misfortune on the ÖSV team: "It is of course very thoughtful, the many injuries darken the atmosphere."

Brunner is said to have won the World Cup medal in giant slalom, second cruciate ligament and meniscal tear in the left knee in the next ten months, but rejects the Tyrolean. Abandoning is certainly not an option for the 24-year-old: "I've already managed to come back strong before, I'll do it again."
