The Microsoft Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile mobile operating systems have never been able to resist alternatives from Google and Apple. A former Nokia employee now explains what decisive reasons are behind the defeat.
In a Reddit article, the former Nokia employee describes in detail how the end of Windows Phone occurred. The author was employed by a Nokia office in the United States as a software developer. In 2011, the group announced that it will produce in the future only smartphones using Windows Phone as the operating system.
At that time, Nokia was the largest smartphone maker in the world. However, this has changed over the next few years as Android has quickly become an enthusiastic user. The advantage over Windows Phone lies in Google services such as YouTube, GMail and Maps.
Influenced by Windows 8
A second reason for the defeat of Redmond's mobile operating system was Windows 8. Subway design was then perceived as a failure. Although the systems are largely independent of each other and only a few of the features criticized in combination with Windows 8 are available in Windows Phone 8, the subway design has also been included in the Windows Mobile branch. Thus, many users perceived both products as bad.
In addition, Microsoft's reputation several years ago was much worse than it is today. The Redmonders have mainly focused on competition in the mobile segment with Apple and not with Google. In 2014, there was little opportunity to convince enough users to switch to Windows Phone. Even though more apps were available for the system, most users would never have changed.
When a breakthrough was finally considered impossible, Nokia worked on the plans of an Android smartphone. This was done in secret by the special phone service because the existing exclusive agreement between Nokia and Microsoft originally existed.
