GMÜND DISTRICT. On Tuesday, 6 November, shortly before 1.30 pm, a serious road accident occurred on B41 near Hoheneich. For reasons unknown, five vehicles collided on the bridge over the Braunaubach. A BMW, an Audi, a Suzuki, a Peugeot and a Ford Transit have sometimes been heavily damaged and stuck. "Miraculously, most of the occupants of the vehicle remained unscathed," said the spokesman for the fire department, Dominik Krenn.
Smoke from a crashed vehicle
As one of the crashed vehicles was showing smoke in the engine, Hoheneich's volunteer fire department was alarmed by the message "Road crash with five vehicles, a vehicle smokes". Immediately leave the Hoheneicher Floriani to prevent a possible vehicle fire and evacuate the scene of the accident. Arrived on the site but could be clear: The hot cooling water may have led to the supposed smoke.
Requested reinforcement
Due to the large number of off-road vehicles, the Gmünd and Schrems firefighters were solicited with crane vehicles. Once disconnected vehicle batteries and enhanced fire protection, vehicles could be placed on a secure parking lot or loaded onto private trailers and transported elsewhere. Once the track was cleared of debris and oil, Federal Highway 41 was cleared. Throughout the mission, police officers deflected traffic in the Hoheneich area, where significant obstacles occurred.
On point
The firefighters of Hoheneich, Gmünd and Schrems were in action with a total of 24 men, the Gmünd Red Cross and police officers for about an hour and a half.
