Judge Rudolf Sturmayr of Rieder had scheduled a seven-hour hearing yesterday to decide the amount of compensation due to the expropriated owner of Adolf Hitler's birthplace in Braunau. As reported P. Gerlinde, who had rented the house for years to 5000 € per month to the Ministry of the Interior, has so far received 310,000 euros. This was not enough for the Klgerin.

But the trial in Ried Regional Court yesterday was much faster than expected. After nearly two hours, Judge Sturmayr announced the end of the process. The verdict was not verbal in the courtroom, but it will be in writing – which will probably take several weeks.

What is the value of the house in the "Salzburger Vorstadt 15"? The court-appointed appraiser has calculated two possible variants. The dispossessed owner could either (each less the 310,000 euros already collected) receive around 800,000 euros, or about 1.5 million euros of compensation.

Although the building is in poor condition, testified a Viennese property expert who had examined the Hitler house. "In order to rent the house, it would have to be renovated and rebuilt, the property is damaged in the arches, windows and facade, the elevator is also down." However, the higher amount of compensation could be justified by the "peculiarity of the house," said his critical colleague. Although the representative of the Federal Prosecution said that this was "appropriate" and therefore higher than previously paid. The lawyer did not seem ready to settle the "special meaning".

"Cruel explosive case"

The judge did not look at the end of the cards. The question of the historic value of the house, which was expropriated by the state in order not to create a "pilgrimage" for the Nazis, was "explosive," the judge said. "Whatever decision is made here, there will be a lot of enthusiasm." This process is "in a sense of cruel explosiveness". Judge Sturmayr does not believe that he is speaking the last word in this case. The case will go through all instances, he guessed.

How to proceed with the Hitler House

After the legal expropriation of the building the previous year, it belongs since to the Republic. As it was reported, the state wanted to avoid this by making the birthplace of the Nazi dictator a place of pilgrimage to the far right. Previously, the owner rented the property to the Ministry of the Interior for 5,000 euros per month. How the building should be used in the future, is open. Currently, the Ministry of Interior plans renovation of the building "urgent need for renovation". Christoph Plzl, spokesperson for the Ministry of the Interior, explains Christoph Plzl. An architect was invited to give his opinion, as the house changed over the years. For historical photos, it would show that the gables looked different, says Plzl.
