Mexico City – Hurricane Willa caused heavy rain and storm surges in Mexico. Mexican weather authorities warned Tuesday night (local time) torrential rains in some parts of the country. However, meteorologists were expecting a rapid weakening.

The hurricane has moved 28 kilometers to the hour to the northeast towards the interior of the country. The states of Sinaloa, Durango and Nayarit are likely to be the hardest hit by the storm. No injuries have been reported.

Winds of about 200 km / h

"Willa" was hit Tuesday night (local time) by winds up to 195 km / h in northwestern Mexico. For the spectators, the hurricane caused a spectacular sunset on the coast.

The level three hurricane center has reached the Pacific coast of a country in Latin America near the town of Escuinapa, in Sinaloa, as reported by the meteorological service. In coastal areas, storm surges and floods, power outages and roof damage have also been reported.

Thousands fled

"Willa" was already slightly weakened off the Mexican coast. In western and northwestern Mexico, the hurricane caused heavy rains and thunderstorms. This has also affected many Pacific seaside resorts. The authorities had put thousands of people safe.

The American hurricane center in Miami expects "Willa" to lose all its force very quickly. The storm could therefore dissolve during Wednesday. (APA / dpa)
