Medications containing valsartan recalled by Mylan

Another manufacturer recalled antihypertensives to valsartan. Which lots are concerned, read here.

Valsartan from Mylan Laboratories Limited can not be used for the production of drugs containing valsartan until further notice. The "Deutsche Apotheker Zeitung" referred to this in the context of a communication from the European Medicines Agency.

Reminder: these drugs are affected by Mylan

Impurities containing N-nitrosodiethylamine (NDEA) were found in lots of the manufacturer's valsartan. The substance is suspected of causing cancer. According to the announcement of the company, the following products and lots are concerned:

• Dura valsartan 40 mg, 80 mg, 160 mg and 320 mg
  28, 56 and 98 film-coated tablets
  PZN 09239582, 09239599, 09239607, 09239613, 09239636, 09333803 and 09333826
• Valsartan / HCT (Valsartan, hydrochlorothiazide) Mylan 80 mg / 12.5 mg, 160 mg / 12.5 mg, 160 mg / 25 mg, 320 mg / 12.5 mg and 320 mg / 25 mg
  6 and 98 film-coated tablets
  PZN 10054959, 10054965, 10054971, 10054988, 10054994, 10055002, 10055019, 10055025, 10055031 and 10055048)

Do not stop the treatment abruptly

The European Medicines Agency, which oversees drug safety in Europe, notes in a statement that there is no immediate risk for patients. As with previous NDMA or NDEA findings, patients are at greater risk of abruptly discontinuing treatment. You should rather contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Mylan has not been affected by the recall of many products containing valsartan this summer due to contamination with the potentially carcinogenic substance N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA). Health authorities throughout Europe have withdrawn various preparations from the market since early July. In addition, lots of an antihypertensive drug badociated with a related drug (Irbesartan) have been recalled as a precaution.
