Minimum Income Guarantee: Families with children must be able to live decently!

Alfred Trendl, president of the Catholic Family Association, calls on the federal government to rethink the de facto ceiling for minimum income support for children.

Vienna (OTS) – The Catholic Family Association criticized the minimum income protection project, particularly the ceiling for families with several children: "It does not matter how many people have to live on an income." The children asked. The first child should represent 25% of the basic performance, the second 15% and the third only 5%. This means for the first child about 215 euros for the second child about 129 euros and the third and each additional child 43 euros per month. "43 euros, or 1.43 euros a day – this would exacerbate child poverty and exclude families with multiple children," he feared. Trendl calls on the federal government to "rethink the ceiling for children or create a package of measures to adequately prevent family poverty in kind," he said.

He recalls the words of the founder of the Association of Catholic Families, Cardinal Franz König: "A society in which families risk falling below the poverty line is in itself an act of impeachment of poverty .
