VILLACH (KTN): Shortly before 9:00 am on July 4, 2018, many callers reported a fire on the A2 highway, just after the Faakersee alley towards Klagenfurt [19659002]. Already at the approach, a huge cloud of smoke could be detected. The driver noticed smoke in the rearview mirror during the trip, stopped his vehicle on the emergency lane and tried to fight the flames with a portable extinguisher before the firefighters arrived. Because of the already advanced fire, he failed.

Upon arrival, the pickup truck, loaded with parcels, was on fire and immediately two extinguishing hoses were manufactured, a respirator fought the fire inside the vehicle, reports Einsatzleiter Oberbrandmeister Scharf Alexander from the main Villach barracks.

After about half an hour, the Aus mark could be given. A private towing company has pbaded the vehicle completely burned from the highway. With ASFINAG employees, the parts of the burned vehicle were removed and the pavement cleared. During the mission, the highway was only a pbadable route.

The Villach Main Fire Station was on duty with two vehicles and nine men with the highway police and Asfinag.
