Process: Underground driver victim of rape – detention – Munich

"I did not want to be restricted as a woman," says Johanna Beck (Changed name). So she put what she wanted and celebrated as long as she wanted it. And she was thinking of taking the subway home about seven o'clock in the morning, in June, after the wet and happy night.

"But it's exactly the subway driver," she starts, shaking. The 58-year-old U-Bahn driver, Günther K., discovered the sleepy and drunken woman during her journey aboard her U 6 on the way by turning from Klinikum Hospital. Großhadern. He raped her and raped her. The district court sentenced him on Wednesday to a two-year and nine-month prison term.

The parallels are frightening: it was only on Tuesday that the trial began against a man who, without a permit, was offering taxi services outside the area reserved for supporters of Grafinger Street, had raped a 24-year-old woman on the way back. A so-called safe taxi, the so-called safe subway. "We teach this to our children," said Judge Sylvia Silberzweig. "Do not go with anyone, take the subway, and if there is anything, go to the metro driver."

In the case of Johanna Beck, then aged 18, the metro driver came to see her. The woman had worked as a waitress until two in the morning and had celebrated with a friend. At seven o'clock she went up the street Implerstraße in the U6 and wanted to join Haderner Stern. But she fell asleep and she sleeps like a stone, she says. The "heavy consumption of alcohol" should also have done the rest, according to the police. She slept too much at rest and did not notice how the driver drove her and the train to the turning lane. There, K. knew, he had eight minutes left before the control room told him to make the next visit.

For seven and a half minutes Günther K. pbaded by the sleeping woman. "Yes," he says, he noticed that she was not with her. And he still finds no explanation for his act and deeply regrets it. "I was also remotely controlled that there was no emotion." 29 years old as a metro driver, a life without conviction. K. is the father of three grown children and has his own daughters.

He was aware that the surveillance camera in the compartment is recording everything, he says. And: "I turned to the clock in the badpit." After seven and a half minutes, he took office, as pointed out by the victim's attorney. He left the young woman sitting on the seat, pushed her away and half discovered her. "The fact that I left them behind me is unbearable until today," says the driver, who immediately left his post. As he apologizes again and again, he's crying.

Johanna Beck is a tall, slender woman, her blonde locks tied in a ponytail and her body wrapped in a dark wool sweater. "Do not forget to breathe," said the judge gently to the nervous woman. "Something had happened and it was not good," begins the 19-year-old. She was out of the subway and wanted to talk to someone. She met two police officers who were on a surveillance mission.

When the Munich woman saw the video of the surveillance camera, she knew exactly what had happened to her. She can hardly be alone today, she says; she suffers depressive moods. Her beautiful party clothes, she wrapped them in a black bag. "The self-confidence that I had accumulated has been removed." She did not want to be restricted as a woman, "today, I think differently". You do not go out anymore. But: "Yes", the 19-year-old answers the judge's question. She's back in the subway. "I do not have any other choice."
