Scammers retired district Vöcklabruck with trick "tax refund", before which the police warns again and again, deceived. The 70 – year – old bank could simply bring back tens of thousands of euros already debited. The Landespolizeidirektion Oberösterreich reported in a press release
The elderly woman received a questionable email from a wrong recipient on Wednesday. The subject was a tax refund. A link gave retiree the choice of his bank and entering his access number and pbadword in the netbanking portal of his current account. By clicking on another link, she received a message that the tax office would return an amount of 1,800 euros to her account in five days.
Then a phone call
A few minutes later, she was called by a private number. A man told him that transferring the refund would take even longer. By SMS, she received a six-digit code. During the phone call, the caller asked the retiree to repeat it over the phone
It was only after the end of the conversation that the retired 70-year-old understood that It was a scam. The account verification revealed that tens of thousands of euros had been debited immediately after the call. The bank was just able to display the amount.
