On Thursday night, the Salzburg police arrested two alleged thieves. The men are believed to have committed thefts on international night trains since January
. Around 4:30 am on June 26, 2018, a 54-year-old Tunisian and a 43-year-old Italian attacked a backpack on a night train. The two men were caught by the train crew, punched and escaped from the train in the Stegenwald (Pongau) area.
Active in international night trains since January
Police immediately took the lead a search and was able to arrest both men. Both were taken to Puch-Urstein prison. Comprehensive police investigations have led to the suspicion that the 54-year-old and 43-year-old men from January 2016 until the June 26, 2018 arrest routinely committed theft on international night trains. The two men sneaked into the compartments of the trains and stole luggage.
Secure valuables and money
The two men got some money. This was sent to parents abroad, among others. Until now, the police have been able to prove to the two perpetrators 15 stolen money and various valuables. During a search carried out in Carinthia, the police obtained 30 other valuables as well as international tickets worth about 500 euros.
The victims of the police come from Europe, Chile, Vietnam or New Zealand. Overall, thefts caused damage in the five – digit average range.
