Thiem enters the new season with this tournament
ABU DHABI. Even before Dominic Thiem scored points in the first scheduled ATP tournament of the new season in Doha, the 25-year-old from Lower Austria is still in Abu Dhabi.
Thiem will meet the winner of Russia's Paris Bercy, Karen Khachanov, at an invitational tournament with six players, from 27 to 29 December. The organizers have already drawn their event on Wednesday.
Also in the United Arab Emirates at the "World Tennis Championship Mubadala" are Novak Djokovic, whom Thiem would face in the semi-finals in case of victory over Khachanov, and Rafael Nadal. The two best stars have a bye in the mini-tournament.
Thiem has just returned from a weeklong stay in the Maldives and is spending a few more days in Austria, before returning to Tenerife for the three week training camp on Saturday.
