The reason is the too high content of boron. For three others, a test also resulted in a health risk. "Smart" clay, on the other hand, was not remarkable.

The consumer auditors examined a total of six phlegmatic toys and six "smart" kneading in the laboratory of the Agency for Health and Nutritional Safety (AGES). In "Furzschleim" a boron content of 8,775 milligrams per kilogram (mg / kg) was determined. However, in accordance with the Austrian Toys Regulation or the EU Toys Directive, a maximum of 300 mg / kg is allowed. With this pbading of this mucus a "serious risk for health".

Uncertain origin

This risk has been badessed on the basis of toxicological data from the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA). For him, the highest risk level of the EU's early warning system for endangered health products, RAPEX, applies. As a result, a product warning or a pan-European recall had already occurred, informed the consumer of the scoffers and recommended that they be discarded or brought back to the market.

During the test, three other sludges were observed due to the extreme boron content of boron. Thus, according to the risk badessment of EFSA, they also represent a low to high risk, a quarter only marginally exceeding the EU limit, without taking into account measurement uncertainties. According to the manufacturer, five of the six sludges in the test came from China, but the problem with "pie skin" is unknown due to lack of information. The price of the most expensive product, postage included 6.95 euros, the cheapest, 1.50 euros.

"Smart modeling clay" harmless

AGES has also looked at six "smart" pastas popular with children – they jump like a rubber ball, wrinkle like paper or burst with the proper force. Individual products are also magnetic or glow in the dark. The clay is firmer than the mucus. The risk of ingestion is therefore lower. Therefore, 1200 mg / kg of boron is also allowed.

None of the tested products have exceeded these or other limitations of the Toys Regulations. There was only one fault regarding labeling. It was missing the reason why there is an age limit. In addition, the symbol for this was printed small unauthorized. For the kneading, it took at least 2.80 euros, but also 15.99 euros.
