The winter time comes after the summer time – the change of time for 2018 is imminent. When does the clock turn? And does he move forward or backward? Here is the overview.
Although millions of EU citizens have voted in favor of eliminating the change of time in an online survey, this year, we will definitely have to shoot again this fall: end of October 2018, the clock will change from summer time to the winter time.
When will the clock switch to the winter time?
Every year: twice a year, we change the clocks. In March, the summer time begins, then the clocks are presented. In October, the winter begins and the clocks are handed over. The time of change always corresponds to the last weekend of March or the last weekend of October.
The second time change this year will be on Sunday, October 28, 2018. At 3 am, all clocks are reset by one hour.
Changing the time from the summer time to the winter time: must the clock advance or reset?
How was it always the same? When the clock is reset before and when, many can not remember it. So here are the details:
- In March, the clock will be presented one hour. At 15:59, the next night follows 3:00.
- In October, the clock is reset one hour. At 2:59, the night follows 2:00.
Change of weather 2018: donkey bridge with garden furniture helps move forward or backward
With a small donkey bridge, the information on the time change can easily be kept in mind:
It's spring, the sun is shining, temperatures are rising, birds are chirping. What are you doing with your garden furniture right now? Okay, you take them out of the garage BEFORE the house.
In the fall, when days become shorter and colder, the birds have been flying south for a long time, and the dominant color is gray-brown; put your garden furniture back in the garage.
With this little story, you can easily remember how clocks are changed: in the spring before, in the winter.
Does the EU switch the time? If yes when?
In an EU-wide online survey, an overwhelming majority of the roughly 4.6 million participants voted to end the change in time. Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) also pleads for the abolition of the change of time in the European Union (EU). "Personally, I would have a very high priority," she said. But when exactly will the change of time be abolished?
After the clear result of the online survey on the change of time, the European Commission wishes to introduce a bill to remove the switchover at the time of the summer. winter time, as announced by the Brussels authority. However, the exact date of this bill does not exist yet. Violeta Bulc, a member of the European Commission, however, said that if the European Parliament and the European Union states were in agreement, the decision could be taken next year – and the change time in 2020 or 2021 will be completed. Subsequently, each country could decide for itself whether it wishes to permanently introduce the winter time or summer time.
Since when is there a change of time here in Germany?
During the First and Second World Wars, there was already a transition from winter to summer in Germany, which however did not follow a clear pattern. The renewed (and permanent) introduction of a change between summer and winter was decided in the Federal Republic of Germany in 1978, but it did not enter into force until 1980. One of the reasons was the desire to adapt to the neighboring countries of the West, which had already introduced summer time in 1977 for reasons of energy policy. Another reason was that the FRG and the GDR had to agree on the introduction of summer time, so that Germany and Berlin in particular are not shared in time.
The change of time has been harmonized throughout the EU. Since then, residents of all EU countries have timed one hour before the last Sunday of March and one hour on the last Sunday of October. And why all this? In fact, daylight should be better used by changing the time and thus save energy. The real profit, however, is controversial. (SLI)
