For Toyota, the Corolla is what the VW is for Golf. Nevertheless, the Japanese did what the Germans would never have dared: the chosen model received a new name for Europe. It was twelve years ago. Then, Auris, the Japanese compact clbad, was reduced to the marginal phenomenon. The name change was made mainly for marketing reasons, as surveys have shown that the name Corolla was often badociated with an unattractive, outdated and undesirable car by European consumers. Well, it was a hell of a mistake. And we learn by mistake: The name Auris is now the snow of yesterday – long live the Corolla!
The twelfth generation of Corolla is a brand new car: attractive, stylish and desirable!
With the new Corolla, Toyota intends its double hybrid strategy. That means: there is a 1.8-liter hybrid (122-hp system performance) and a 2.0-liter (all-new) hybrid (180-hp system performance). We went with both variants – and both variants convinced us. With 122 hp, we managed in normal driving an average consumption of 4.8 liters (Toyota gives from 3.3 liters). With 180 horsepower, the Corolla is already very fun, it evokes a broad smile – and the continuously variable transmission is almost no more annoying (the most powerful version, by the way, includes paddles). A hybrid plug-in is not planned, at least for the moment. For hybrid and CVT rejects, there is a 1.2-liter turbo gasoline engine with 116 hp and a six-speed manual transmission. Diesel? Because you can search a long time.
"The world's best-selling car is back: stronger and more efficient than ever, the Corolla is now available in gasoline engine or with two hybrid engines up to 180 hp!" Christian Wotypka, press officer for Toyota Frey Austria
The new Corolla model is based on the new TNGA-based GA-C platform, which is also based on the current Prius, the C-HR and the new Lexus UX – providing more comfort and driving stability. guaranteeing a more agile handling. take care (that's the case too). First: adaptive variable suspension.
The Hatchback (4.37 meters long) and Touring Sports (4.65 meters long, up to 1606 liters of trunk volume) arrive in Austria – each with an elegant design. Due to the low demand, the Notchback sedan is not offered in Austria, although its appearance is very harmonious. Tourism sports (that's the name of the station wagon) have been developed in Belgium especially for Europe.
Finally, the # 12 Corolla is an exemplary car – Toyota Safety Sense 2 (collision warning system, automatic high beam system, road signaling system, lane departure warning with management intervention, cruise control adaptive speed for hybrid vehicles, additional tracking and congestion tracking badistant) is standard on board.
