An unusual robbery in Salzburg involves the police: the gold Hubbard honorary medal from climber Norman Dyhrenfurth, who died last year, has disappeared. It was given to him by American President John F. Kennedy.
The Hubbard Gold Medal made by the American National Geographic Society is a very exclusive prize. It has been awarded only 38 times – to international celebrities like Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon, Atlantic pilot Charles Lindbergh, South Pole Explorer Roald Amundson or chimpanzee researcher Jane Goodall. Norman Dyhrenfurth received him in 1963 from Kennedy in front of the White House because he led the first American Mount Everest expedition with the first crossing of a thousand eight.

Dyhrenfurth spent his twilight years in the city of Salzburg. The mountaineer died on September 24, 2017 at the age of 100 years. But when the heirs of Dyhrenfurth left the apartment in April 2018, the gold medal of nine centimeters in diameter disappeared, just like several engraved cuts and metal mats.
