A prisoner died Saturday as a result of a dispute with the judicial authorities of North Rhine-Westphalia, in Werl. The autopsy of the 59-year-old German had revealed the same day that he had died of a sudden cardiac death, police said in a joint press release.

The detainee brutally attacked an officer on Saturday and was later restrained and tied up by other JVA officials. Shortly after, he lost consciousness and died despite resuscitation of an ambulance in his cell.

The Dortmund Police Station has set up a homicide commission. "The coroner could exclude outside influences as a cause of death," the press release said.
