SINGAPORE – Swimming, cycling, jogging as well as ball and racket games were among the examples of strenuous physical activities listed by the Ministry of Health (MOH) that vaccinated people should avoid in the first week following their first and second COVID-19 vaccine.

Housework, occasional walking and stretching, on the other hand, were considered “safe,” according to a new opinion from the Department of Health.

This replaces an earlier June 11 advisory that recommended that vaccinated people, especially adolescents and young men, avoid strenuous physical activity for a week after the second dose of mRNA vaccines.

The new notice comes as the ministry announced it was investigating an incident involving a 16-year-old boy who suffered cardiac arrest after lifting weights six days after receiving his first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine .

Before his collapse on Saturday, the boy had trained with weights greater than his body weight, according to the Department of Health. He is currently hospitalized at National University Hospital (NUH), where he remains in critical condition in his intensive care unit.

As of June 30, 12 cases of myocarditis and pericarditis have been reported in individuals following their vaccination with COVID-19 mRNA vaccines, according to the Health Sciences Authority’s (HSA ) published on Monday.

Five of the cases occurred in adults aged 30 and over.

The remaining seven were in males under the age of 30, which is higher than expected for this particular age group, based on background incidence rates.

“While most of the previously reported cases had occurred after the second dose of their vaccination, the HSA had also started receiving reports of some cases that had occurred after the first dose,” the Expert Committee on Health said on Monday. vaccination against COVID-19.
