PHOENIX – The Arizona Department of Health Services released a new update for its COVID-19 dashboard on Tuesday, providing more demographics related to the state’s vaccine delivery efforts.

Health officials said the data shows the total number of vaccine doses given, the total number of vaccines given each day, the number of unique Arizonans receiving their first dose and the number of Arizonans with the series completed.

Data indicating the age, race, ethnicity and sex of those receiving the vaccine are also provided.

According to data from Tuesday afternoon, nearly 50% of vaccines were given to the white population. Only eight percent was administered to the Hispanic population and almost two percent to the black population. A section dubbed Other Race / Unknown with nearly 40% of people administered was also on the scorecard in Tuesday’s announcement.

Along with the dashboard update, AZDHS Director Dr Cara Christ posted a blog explaining the staged approach to vaccine delivery and how the demographics outlined should not yet come out. align with demographics of the general population.

“Due to the staged approach to vaccine delivery, the demographics presented here should not yet match the demographics of the general population,” said Dr Cara Christ. “For example, the distribution of age or race / ethnicity among the population of health workers, the category of protective services and professionals in education and child care is not the same as the distribution among the general population of Arizona. “

Dr Christ added that the health department expects demographics to align more closely with those of the general population as Arizona begins to vaccinate Phase 1C and Phases 2 and 3.
