The following is a press release from the Idaho Falls Police Department.

IDAHO FALLS – On October 7, at approximately 3:20 p.m., Idaho Falls and Idaho Falls Fire & EMS police officers responded to the 2200 N Yellowstone Hwy area for a report of a vehicle collision with injuries.

First responders arrived at the scene and determined that a red 2005 Dodge Ram had stopped in the southbound center lane. A silver 2014 Nissan Sentra was driving south in the right lane when the Ram attempted to turn right into a parking lot in front of the Sentra, causing the collision.

At the time of the collision, the Ram was occupied only by the driver. The Sentra was occupied by the driver, a passenger and a baby. The infant was guarded by an occupant of the vehicle in the back seat and was not secured in a car seat at the time of the collision.

The infant was injured in the collision and was transported to the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center by Idaho Falls Ambulance. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, the infant was pronounced dead in hospital.

This collision is still under investigation and no further information will be released at this time.

Our deepest condolences go out to the infant’s family and to all those affected by this tragic collision.
