One baby was identified as being the child of a missing, 19-year-old Chicago woman who was pregnant when she went missing at the end of April and who was would have given birth after his disappearance. She disappeared after arranging to go get baby clothes from a member of a Facebook group.
The newborn was found when paramedics responded to the call of a baby in distress on April 23, the same day that Marlen Ochoa was missing, according to NBC Chicago.
A spokeswoman for the family told reporters Wednesday that the DNA had been used to confirm that the child was Ochoa's.
"It's a blessing we've found Yadiel, the baby, that's the name of the baby Marlen chose," said Cecilia Garcia, according to NBC Chicago.
She added that the family was hopeful but was also preparing for the worst because Ochoa is still missing.
Ochoa was nine months pregnant when she disappeared and appears to have had a delivery after being last seen leaving Latino Youth High School, where she was attending classes.
Garcia said Ochoa had arranged to retrieve her baby's clothes the day of her disappearance, according to a Facebook group called "Help A Sista Out".
Ochoa was to pick up her 3-year-old son at the daycare later in the afternoon, but her family said she had never been there, reported NBC Chicago.
Chicago police told NBC News in a statement on Wednesday that she was conducting interviews with people related to the missing persons case, but could not give any further comment.
The officer of the Cook County Medical Examiner confirmed to NBC News that a body had been found near the place where the baby had been found by paramedics, but this body has not yet been found identified.
