OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Lamar Jackson has been officially banned from the reserve / COVID-19 list, which puts him on track to train at the Baltimore Ravens training camp on Saturday.

Jackson missed the previous 10 days of training camp, which is the NFL rule for unvaccinated players who receive a positive COVID-19 test result. He returned to the team’s facility on Friday and underwent testing at the facility under NFL protocol, Ravens coach John Harbaugh said.

Harbaugh said after Friday practice that he was not told when Jackson would return to the training ground. But the Ravens activated Jackson hours later, allowing him to participate in his first full team practice of the summer.

“He’ll be back as soon as he can,” Harbaugh said after Friday practice. “I’m excited for this. I can’t wait to be.”

Jackson tested positive on July 27 after five consecutive days of negative results. He’s missed all eight full-team Baltimore training camp practices so far.

It was the second time in eight months that Jackson had tested positive for the coronavirus. Maryland Governor Larry Hogan urged Jackson to get the shot on Tuesday.

Running back Gus Edwards, who was placed on the reserve / COVID-19 roster along with Jackson, returned to training on Friday and looked solid in drills.

“Gus was obviously further ahead [of Jackson] in terms of not having to take certain tests, ”Harbaugh said.

Ravens defensive end Derek Wolfe has made no secret of his dissatisfaction with the current NFL COVID rules.

“I don’t really want to talk about it, to be honest,” Wolfe said. “There is nothing we can do about it. The superiors in white hats will do whatever they want. I guess the sheep have to follow. I’m just here to play football. “

Pro Bowl linebacker Justin Houston, who signed a one-year contract with Baltimore on Monday, first trained with the Ravens on Friday. He participated in individual exercises before leaving the field.

“It was part of the plan with Justin,” Harbaugh said. “We’re going to have to reinstate him. “

On Friday, the Ravens avoided an injury with cornerback Jimmy Smith, who was taken off the field late in practice. Smith suffered a sprained ankle which is not considered serious, according to a source.
