PHOENIX – Banner Health announced on Tuesday that COVID-19 vaccinations will be mandatory for all employees with a deadline of November 1.

By the November deadline, all employees should be fully immunized against the virus for their protection, along with colleagues and patients with “rare exceptions,” according to an email sent to staff.

“We care for some of the most vulnerable people in our communities and we owe it to them to take all possible steps to ensure the safest care environment,” said Peter Fine, President and CEO of Banner Health , in a company-wide email on July 20. “… We are taking this step to reduce the risk to our patients, their families, visitors and each other. Safety is a top priority and the COVID vaccine mandate reflects this commitment. “

Banner Health said there are several reasons at play with the latest move which includes increasing the fast-spreading delta variant and pending the emergency use clearance from the Food and Drug Administration.

Public health experts say they are seeing signs of a third wave of COVID-19 in Arizona as we begin to see an exponential growth curve.

The delta variant, a more contagious variant, is likely to be blamed as the state has seen a sharp increase in reported cases daily over the past week.

Earlier this month, Banner launched an incentive program for employees fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
