Bannon to challenge Jan.6 committee subpoena as Trump urges challenge, sources say

Steve Bannon has informed the House committee investigating the U.S. Capitol Riot that he will not cooperate with their subpoena to provide related documents, according to a source familiar with the matter. The source qualified Bannon’s response as saying he “stands by Trump’s side.”

Another source confirmed that Bannon responded, as did former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows. The source would not characterize Meadows’ response. It is not clear whether the other two – Kash Patel and Dan Scavino – have responded.

Here's what happens if a congressional subpoena is ignored (and what it means for the January 6 committee)

The four associates were summoned to appear by the special House committee. All four also received letters from Trump’s attorney on Wednesday informing them that he intended to defend what he considered a violation of executive privilege.

In the letter seen by CNN, a lawyer for Trump advised them to “where appropriate, invoke immunities and privileges” and not to provide documents or testimony.

A committee spokesperson declined to comment.
