UCF IT teams must continually maintain and improve our cybersecurity capabilities with the latest technologies and experienced staff to deal with the ever-increasing threats from criminal enterprises and state actors against the University of Central Florida, our students. , staff and faculty.
In keeping with this commitment, I will appoint UCF Deputy Chief of Police, David Zambri, as the new Associate Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer.
“The background of the deputy head of the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, his access to the FBI network as a graduate of the National Academy, and his connections with agencies such as the Central Florida Intelligence Exchange and the US Secret Service will strengthen ties of the UCF with these police forces and security agencies. I am delighted that he has accepted to take on this role, ”said Matthew Hall, vice president of information technology and chief information officer of UCF.
Zambri is already familiar with UCF and its IT deployment. He has been part of the UCF community since the start of his law enforcement career at UCF and most recently was the Deputy Chief of the Police Department at UCF. In his most recent role, he oversaw the functions of the UCF Police Department, including law enforcement information technology and criminal justice information systems.
With over 28 years in law enforcement and 14 years in leadership roles, Zambri said: “When I think about this (new) position, it really is a component of what I have done. throughout my career. It is to ensure the safety of the community. It’s a shift from traditional crime prevention, law enforcement and public safety to the cyber landscape. It serves the UCF community – protecting it from cybercriminals or state actors who can cause immeasurable damage to our institution.
“My top priority is to create a support network between UCF’s information security and its law enforcement partners, the Ministry of Homeland Security, the Ministry of Defense and others. to ensure that we have the best prevention and response to cyber attacks, ”said Zambri.

This exclusive program for senior law enforcement officials is a coveted professional development experience for U.S. and international law enforcement participants. Nationally appointed participants called him “law enforcement as to what West Point is to the military.”
IT @ UCF would like to thank Chris Vakhordjian for his 20 years of dedication to academia and IT.
