Barbara Corcoran is facing a backlash online after her TV commentary on Whoopi Goldberg’s appearance went viral, sparking widespread criticism as well as fat shame accusations.

Their conversation about Emma Grede – the CEO of Good American and the first black woman to appear on Shark aquarium as a guest judge – sparked a wave of praise for the clothing brand’s founder and her company, which promotes healthy body image and sells clothing in inclusive sizes.

When Whoopi asked if the jeans fit her, hosts Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro said they did. Barbara said, “And when you’re done with those jeans and decide you don’t like them, give them to me. I’ll make two pairs!”

People have been scrutinizing Barbara’s social media remark after she appeared on View, many pointed out how offensive and problematic it was.

Shortly after Thursday’s episode, Barbara apologized to Whoopi in a video she shared on Twitter. “I just came back from View and I saw my old friend Whoopi. She has a phenomenal sense of humor and I’ve known Whoopi for years, ”she said.

“I made a joke at Whoopi’s expense, what I now realize wasn’t funny,” Barbara continued, adding, “To anyone I may have inadvertently offended, I just wanted to say that I am. really sorry.”

Whoopi responded to the video early this morning and appeared to accept her friend’s apology. “Barbara, we’ve been friends forever and I know your humor, I knew you were kidding,” she wrote.
