A Detroit-area brewery canceled production of a new beer on Monday, a day after it was announced over threatened lawsuits from Hall of Famer Barry Sanders.
The Eastern Market Brewing Co. on Sunday announced the Detroit Lions-themed “Same Old Lager,” a drink that featured Sanders on the can in an 8-bit version. His name nor the Lions name are on the box, but he’s clearly the legendary running back.
Sanders tweeted a photo of the can on Monday and said he had no affiliation with the brewery.

Sanders played for the Lions from 1989 to 1998 and is perhaps the most famous player in the team’s history. He racked up more than 15,000 rushing yards and 99 touchdowns over his 10 seasons there, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2004.
The 4.5% alcohol beer has been described as “exactly what you expect” and plays on Detroit’s struggles after false hopes every season. The beer was announced Sunday following the team’s 20-0 loss to the Carolina Panthers, their third loss in their last four games.
“Lightweight, crisp and always leaves you wanting more,” the description read via the Detroit Free Press. “Keep telling yourself, ‘the next beer will be beer.’ “
