Baytown officer fires at woman who allegedly attempted to use a Taser during her arrest

BAYTOWN, Texas (KTRK) – Inspectors opened an investigation after a Baytown police officer shot dead a woman while she was trying to arrest her Monday night, officials said.

This happened around 22:40. at the Brixton apartment complex in the 1600 block of Garth Road.

According to the police, the police officer, an 11-year-old Baytown Police Service veteran, was on patrol when he met a 45-year-old woman whom he had previously been dealing with and whom he knew to be in trouble. he had outstanding warrants.

The officer contacted the woman and attempted to arrest her, but this one fought him, forcing him to use his stun gun, said Baytown Police Lieutenant Steve Dorris .

While he was trying to handcuff her, she would have grabbed her Taser and would have used it.

Lieutenant Dorris says it was at this point that the officer was forced to pull out his gun and fired several times at the woman, hitting her at least once.

The officer tried to render help immediately after the shooting. She died on the spot.

"It was a sad situation, Tragic, the lady … she lived here, we saw her often, saw her walking her dog," said resident Raquelle Cuellar.

Someone posted a video on Snapchat at the time the taser was used on the woman and when she was shot. The police now hope to be able to talk to this person and any other witnesses.

"You are harassing me," they say in the woman's video clip while the Taser is being used.

The woman also shouted "I'm pregnant" in the video. This has not been confirmed by the police.

The Harris County Attorney's Office is also part of the investigation into the shooting, which is the usual procedure in such cases.

The agent will be put on paid administrative leave, which is also a standard protocol.

Out of respect for the woman and the agent involved, their names will not be divulged until the family is informed.

The officer was injured by the Taser, but the extent of his injuries is unknown.

"It's a tragic event for everyone involved.Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased.We want to get all the answers to all the questions we can," Lieutenant Dorris told ABC13. "We never want things to happen to that."

The officer had a body camera.
