STATEN ISLAND, NY – While many people proudly displayed their COVID-19 vaccination cards on their social media to celebrate a milestone in the fight against the pandemic, the Better Business Bureau (BBB) is warning the public not to not do it.
A BBB press release says vaccine cards contain personal information, including full name, date of birth, and location of vaccines, that scammers could potentially use.
“If your social media privacy settings are not set to a high level, you can give out valuable information to everyone,” the statement said.
However, the BBB warns that personal information is not the only problem. In Britain, crooks have been caught selling fake vaccination cards on social platforms including eBay and TikTok.
The BBB warns that this trend may soon become widespread in the United States.
While the BBB cautions against taking photos of the vaccine card itself, people can take photos of their vaccine stickers or a selfie during the process.
