Seen from the space, our planet is a blue and white jewel in the middle of the darkness. Much of the Earth's distinctive color comes from the vast quantities of water that cover the surface and scatter the light from the sky.

But what would happen if the oceans suddenly disappeared, swept away in the blink of an eye? It would certainly be bad news for the rich marine life they support and the tens of millions of people living from the sea.
