Bears vs Raiders injury report: Chicago rules out 4, questionable Akiem Hicks

The Chicago Bears will be a bit shorthanded when they travel to Las Vegas to face the Raiders this weekend with four players already excluded. One we knew, but the other three were unexpected. The Bears will also likely be without one of their best defensemen on Sunday.

Here’s Friday’s full report from the Bears.

  • David Montgomery, RB (knee) – absent
  • JP Holtz, TE (Quad) – Released
  • Jesse James, TE (Staff) – Released
  • Joel Iyiegbuniwe, ILB (hamstring) – Released
  • Akiem Hicks, DL (groin) – Doubtful
  • Khalil Mack, OLB (Ribs / foot) – Questionable
  • Christian Jones, LB (Return) – Questionable
  • Tashaun Gipson Sr., S (hamstring) – Questionable
  • Jesper Horsted, TE (knee) – Questionable

It’s not all bad news for the Bears, as their second quarterback is back after his bone bruise heals. With Andy Dalton back – he was a full participant all week – expect to see QB3 Nick Foles inactive on Sunday. Plus, running back Damien Williams hasn’t been hampered all week by the quad injury he suffered against the Lions, so he’ll be looking to keep the Chicago racing game on track. Darnell Mooney also doesn’t have an injury designation for the first time this year.

With Holtz and James both at close range, I would expect to see Horsted make his debut into the season, and considering he’s been in full training all week, he should be fine on Sunday.

Considering Mack was named captain this week, I don’t think his injury designation will matter. He will play.

Gipson has been training fully all week so he should be able to start on Sunday.

Hicks finally had some limited practice today, but I could see the team demoting him to Saturday. I guess he’s taking time off this Sunday, but Hicks has had to deal with injuries before.

Once the Las Vegas Raiders announce their injury list, I’ll share it here.
