Four members of the Kuzmin family from Mashkino village in the Vitebsk region received the honorary title of "Just Among the Nations" from the State of Israel. Such an honor was awarded to them for the salvation of a 16-year-old Jewish youth during the Great Patriotic War
In February 1942, the family of 16-year-old Leva was killed in the Chashniki Ghetto. It's happened before his eyes. The boy himself was saved by a miracle. A fortnight pbaded through the villages: someone let him in the house, while it was dark, someone gave bread and asked to leave, but someone immediately left. In the end, Lyova became weak and froze her legs. Somewhere, I arrived at the extreme of the village of Mashkino, where the Old Believers lived Nazar and Anna Kuzminy with three children
The guy was at the Shelter, but extremely dangerous: in the village there was a German. a battalion of sappers, and their commander lived in the house of Nazar Kallistratovich and Anna Minovna
The Kuzmins heard about the mbadacre of Jews around the region and knew that those who hid them were threatened with death. They hid Lyova first in the public baths. But it was cold there, and drowning in the middle of the week meant attracting attention. Nazar regretted the boy and moved him to the house. I made it go unnoticed for the Germans. He put Lyova in a bag with firewood and so brought him into the hut.
For a moment, the guest was sitting in a closet, behind a stove. But, remember, the German commander lived in a house. Nazar and Anna began to fear that they would find Lyova. He was again sent to the baths, but not now to the one at the court, but now to the distance of the farm.
Levin's icy legs coated with goose fat. The guest was treated by the daughter of the host Oksana, before the war she was studying at the medical school. And the meal was taken by his brothers in turn – Fedya and George .
A month later, when Lyova got a little stronger, the Kuzmins wore clothes and shoes. And the family council decided that Fedya would transfer the guy to the supporters.
After the war, Kuzminy and Vorobeichik were lost. But all the time looking for each other. They met only 14 years after the Victory, in 1959, by chance. From that moment, they became parents one of the other.
Lev Vorobeichik died in 1984, at the age of 59, of heart disease. He was buried at the Jewish cemetery in Vitebsk. There are no other heroes in this story alive: Nazar, Anna Kuzminykh and their children Fedor, Oksana and Georgy.
