A stork winters outside in Minsk. The locals do not know what to do with.

The residents of Minsk appealed to the editor and explained to them how a stork had settled in the courtyard of Sukharevo and could not fly for the winter. We looked at the bird's way of life and learned from specialists what the local population should do in this situation.

We did not find the bird immediately. She walks near the construction site near the church. A stork can still fly, but not over long distances.

The locals worry that despite calls, no one took the bird. And what to do with that further, the residents do not know.

Note that the Ministry of Emergency Situations is engaged in saving people. Rescuers are looking for challenges with birds and animals in difficult situations, when external factors threaten their lives and there is currently no call to save people.

Environmental Specialist of Public Organization "Akhova Ptushak Batskayushchyna" Semyon on the left explains that storks generally leave Belarus on August 20, but that they have started wintering regularly in the capital in recent years. The reasons for wintering are different: the warming, the presence of non-icing sources around Minsk, a dump where you can get food.

– There are dozens of similar cases. The birds remain, not only those who are injured, but also those who fly. If they fly a short distance, for example a stork in Shabany, who chose a place for wintering. This may indicate that they are accumulating energy, which is hard to get in the winter because the power supply is not really there. I am not sure that the stork of the school is injured and unable to fly. If he could not fly, he would not even be able to make short flights.

Semyon Left says that it's not necessary to catch a bird – it's stressful for her and a traumatic situation. All that can be done for a cozy stork wintering at Sukharevo is to feed it.

– We know that they support winter successfully, the main thing being the availability of food. One can buy semi-finished meat products that you need to thaw and cut, it can act of a small sea fish – capelin. The cold is not as bad for them as hunger: the storks have a body temperature of about 40 degrees and their plumage also protects them. The threat to poultry – low temperature of about minus 15 degrees and below. Then they must catch and look for a hot room. But, knowing all these cases of hibernating storks, we can badume that the bird will be able to spend the winter here and fly away in the spring.

Zoo stork also will not save. According to the expert, for an adult bird of nature to enter, it must be quarantined. But there is nowhere to go.

In addition, the expert summed up the fact that the elimination of birds from the wild is a laborious process. In accordance with the seizure procedure, a commission meets with a veterinarian, to be convened by the Natural Resources Committee. On the site, the commission monitors the stork and the vet gives his opinion on the bird's outward signs to know where he needs help. In the affirmative, we try to catch and we look for a place to winter a stork. But there is no such organization to accept captured wild birds. There are private initiatives where birds live or where they can be taken for overexposure.
