At that time, we had not even learned to distinguish good from bad, so literally everything was used in the course: "screens," "frank trash," and even "category B movies," as we call them now, then seemed something intimate and unbelievable. But until then, as Vidacs proved to be widely available, the only place where all this could be seen was the video shows.

The first of them opened in the late 80s, when private companies were licensed in the Soviet Union. And you can literally find a video store everywhere. These were often clbadrooms or meeting rooms, basements and, in general, empty premises; someone simply called the "video room" his apartment, where he was inviting people for money. But there were cases and more interesting: for example, in St. Petersburg for this purpose redeveloped the old wagon, and in Stavropol – the entire plane. But the high cynicism was, of course, the video libraries, located in the same building as the cinemas, which were then completely empty.

In small, dark and often smoky rooms that can accommodate 10 to 15 people, we have discovered a whole world, sometimes even literally through a keyhole. And, despite the fact that the real growth of video shows was relatively short, the films we saw became our cultural code.

Action Movies

No, militants in the Soviet Union, of course, were filming. "Desert white sun", "In the special attention area" (and following "Retaliation movement"), "Simple swimming", "Fan". "Pirates of the twentieth century" set a record: 120 million people watched the film. But all Soviet action games were ideologically verified with all the consequences, and more importantly – they were too few. Therefore, it is not surprising that when the films with Chuck Norris, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Jackie Chan and Jean-Claude Van Damme appeared on the market, they became new models for all ages.

Plus, every action movie hero in the 90s had his own characteristic, or technique, that went from one movie to the other. For example, Chuck Norris is of course USRCHN ("a shot with a trick of Chuck Norris") and an invulnerability same, as in the image "Agent" of 1991.

Norris began acting in action movies in the '70s when he first appeared in the Hollywood movie, godfather of all of Bruce Lee's movie fights, "The Way of the Dragon." There, he played the "last boss", the American Colt, who beat the nerves of the main character well.

By the way, in the next movie, Lee – "Out of the Dragon" – another great master later interpreted, will later become famous for his uninsured stunts – Jackie Chan. Of course, it was not even indicated in the credits.

And one of Chuck's most successful solo films is the action film "The Lonely Wolf McQuade", which later in the 90's is often on television. There he played a clbadic (though in many ways this picture became a clbadic because of Chuck), a hermit-cop drinker with the most honest rules. In addition to the direct fight scenes, thanks to the "Lonely Wolf", it becomes clear that Norris can get his enemies out of the ground.

Jean-Claude Van Damme is a string of any position and shot in flight, as on the movie poster "Blood Sports".

Here, by the way, he manifests another great love for competition films. "Kickboxer", "AWOL", the same "blood sport", "the street fighter" and, of course, "In search of adventure" – from everywhere, Van Damme "won the medal of # 39; gold. "

Eric Roberts also tried to enter this territory with the film "The best of the best", but it was a unique event. The American team goes to the World Taekwondo Championship, which takes place in Seoul. There, she will find herself in the final with the Korean team. It was therefore essential to watch tapes such as "A nightmare on Elm Street", "Halloween", "Friday the 13th" (at least, many had to say not to accuse of cowardice in the yard).

At the same time, on-screen versions of Stephen King's works began to appear, such as Children of Corn, Lunatics, It, Runner Man, Lawnmower.

The most expensive tickets in the video lounges, of course, were for the evening shows because you could see what was not there for years. With eroticism, everything was as difficult as possible because the allotted time was given, and finally, it resulted in nonsense. For the distribution of a film such as, for example, "The Greek Fig Tree", one could be sentenced to three years in prison. In 1988, he was still allowed to be shown, not only in the showrooms, but also in cinemas. Only those who sat before the lifting of the ban remained in prison. By modern standards, the Greek fig tree is nothing more than a light comedy with erotic elements, but under the Soviets, it was a severe crime.

The film "Emmanuel" and Sylvia Christel herself, then dubbed "the grandmother of Soviet eroticism," have of course left the "warm" memories of visitors to the video shows.

It is telling that for some time, Emmanuel has been banned in France under President Georges Pompidou. But when Valerie Giscard came to replace him, the film went back to the cinema. Maybe he is not connected, but at that moment, his mistress was Sylvia Christelle.

The famous "oil scene" of "The Last Tango in Paris" was so overwhelming that she even went into the recording "Envy of the Gods" by Vladimir Menshov: the movie's heroes are watching Bertolucci at his home in a faulty video recorder, which causes big problems. Naturally, not everyone liked the repertoire of video fairs of that time, and it is for these film lovers that in 1993, in Minsk, in the building of the Palace of the trade unions, they began to organize the "cinema ". Hera Glick, Maxim Zhbankov and Svetlana Savchik were the only people involved in this project. The films had to be transported literally in the hands of St. Petersburg, Moscow and Kiev (and these were not cbadettes, but movies, they weighed in an impressive way), but all of these works did not have was in vain: in 2003, the project was able to celebrate its 10th anniversary and has cult status for local film buffs.
