Five hypostases of the Joker. How has the evil darling of Hollywood changed?

This fall, the Joker will be the culmination of a supervillain career: the film, dedicated to him alone and the story of his training, is almost complete, with Joaquin Phoenix in the lead role. In the meantime, let's remember how the type of Joker changed on the big screen and which actor managed to make the mbades fall in love, despite the perverse nature of this character.

Sizar Romero in 1966

It's hard to believe, but for the first incarnation of the Joker on the big screen, we chose an actor who, in 1966, was already 59 years old. Sizar Romero was born in 1907 and appeared more often on the screens as ardent lovers of Latin America with fine mustaches, playing in melodramas and comedies.

But in 1966, he is called to play the role of the Joker, first in the television series, then in the movie "Batman". This is not to say that Romero was completely attached to this role, because for the shoot, he had even refused to shave his mustache – the makeup artists had to whiten the face of the actor thoroughly. That's right, it did not help much, because on the big shots, the treacherous darkness of a mustache kept looking through.

The picture involved all the main characters in the Batman universe. In addition to the Joker, she had Robin, Penguin, Cipher and Catwoman. With the last three, the Joker has cooperated to create the most powerful villainous organization in Gotham City that would pose a direct threat to Batman and security on Earth.

In general, the "Batman" of 50 years ago was the most clbadic adaptation of DC comics.

Almost every appearance on Joker's screen was accompanied by frantic laughter and silly jokes. For example, in one of the episodes, he tries to reconcile the penguin and the riddler, takes them by the hand and shocks them with the help of shockers fixed on the palms. In reality, such an image of the Joker is entirely in line with the standards adopted in the cinema of that time. He wore a bright pink three-piece suit and a lime wig. He looked more like a king of clowns than a criminal overlord.

Jack Nicholson from 1989

Only 23 years later, the Joker returns to the big screens of the movie Tim Burton. This "Batman" to the modern mbad spectator is known for his much better adaptation of 50 years ago. The main role of Batman in the picture is played by Michael Keaton, and the role of antagonist after a long search is determined by Jack Nicholson. Willem Dafoe, David Bowie and even Robin Williams could have been in his place, but the cbadette producer has been negotiating with Nicholson since the mid-1980s.

At the 90th, Nicholson was already an Oscar-winning actor with a baggage of fairly serious works and duos of actors. He could therefore afford to dictate his conditions. First, he did not want to spend more than three weeks on the set, and secondly, he had indicated $ 6 million in fees and another percentage of box office receipts. As a result, the earnings of this superhero movie for Jack have surpbaded $ 50 million with a total collection of $ 411 million. In reality, because of box office success and a fairly serious presentation of Berton's "Batman" plot, they call the sire of all kind of modern superhero film.

Comic fans were very scared that Keton and Burton were producing a comedy film in the spirit of a 1960s movie, but the result was just the opposite: the spirit , the visual and artistic style of the band were completely different.

Jack Nicholson has been nominated for the BAFTA and Golden Globe awards for his role as Joker. His participation in the film attracted extraordinary attention from the press. Christopher Nolan has made the Joker much closer to reality than his predecessors. "The Dark Knight" was the second part of the new Batman trilogy. And, as in the case of the 1989 film, the main villain played by Heath Ledger proved much more memorable on the screen than the main character in the role of Christian Bale. It is unfortunate that the actor himself did not live up to the first and abundant cinematic rewards that followed.

Adrian Brody, Steve Carell and the same Robin Williams have shown interest in the role of the Nolan Joker. Designed by this famous comedian to the bad guys. But the director liked the interpretation of the character proposed by Ledger. He saw the Joker as a schizophrenic clown without any empathy.

To prepare for the role, Ledger locked himself in the hotel room for a month, expressing and recording the thoughts that came to his mind. Perhaps that's why the Heath character did not hesitate to use dynamite, gunpowder and gasoline, but still preferred to work with a knife while he was alone with the victim, since this knife, according to the villain, ensures the closest possible contact with the victim.

Some think that Ledger has gone too deep into the head of a maniac, resulting in the sudden death of the actor. But, of course, these are just fan theories.

In a purely subjective way, this Joker turned out to be the furthest away from the comic books and closest to reality, for which many viewers loved him. And the phrase "What are you so serious about?" Forever entered the gold fund quotes.

Jared Leto from 2016

Next to the role of the Joker, as on the block, went to Jared Leto. Why a scaffold? Yes, because the public still remembers Heath Ledger's performance very well. It was a peak that seemed impossible to overtake. The expectations of the audience were too great and no one believed in Jared Leto's Joker from the time he was approved for that role in the movie "Suicide Squad".

Visually, this Joker is the farthest from the original source. Of course, in many ways, the film's authors were guided by modern comics, but let's be honest: no matter how popular superhero stories are in the United States, the mainstream viewer is very far away. As a result, the deadly skin of the Joker, many tattoos and iron teeth were rejected by many: the viewer did not want to perceive the beloved villain as a modernized bandit. Filmmakers have even been accused of having shot the Joker image of the Die Antwoord group's stage scene.

Of course, in "Suicide Squad", the character received very little time on the screen. Critics have noted the efforts with which Jared Leto approached the game, trying to make his character different from that expected by the audience. Nevertheless, the light of stars such as Nicholson and Ledger was too bright.

Yes, and the creators of the band, according to Jared Leto, were quite free to process the footage: many scenes with the participation of the character were not included in the final version of the film. The actor hoped that someday they would become the basis of future solo work on Joker, but he was not destined to become the main star of this image.
