Specialists from the Fleet of Northern Russia raised the US medium tank M3 Lee, sunk in the Barents Sea off the island of Kildin during World War II. He has already been taken to Severomorsk, writes rg.ru.

Tanks transported the transport vehicle "Ballot", but in early 1943 it sank, jumping on the rocks. Some equipment had time to unload, the rest of the storm was washed away in the sea. It is the sixth tank raised by the North Fleet. Five others picked up on the transport side "Thomas Donaldson". Now the M3 Lee will be restored.

M3 Lee – US Medium Tank from World War II. He was appointed in honor of General Lee, commander of the Civil War in the United States

M3 was established in 1940 and was serialized from June 1941 to August 1942 (modified third and fifth models models until December of the same year). In total, 6258 M3 were produced in different versions. About 2/3 of the released M3 were transferred to other countries, almost exclusively in the United Kingdom and the USSR, under the Lend-Lease program

. The crew of the tank consisted generally of six members. The tank was equipped with a 75mm M2 or M3 gun mounted in the barrel on the front right side of the hull, equipped with a gyroscopic stabilizer in a vertical plane. An additional M5 or M6 gun of 37 mm was placed in the tower and was designed to compensate and protect the attack of enemy armored vehicles
