Holidays that do not exist. July 27 is the day of independence of Belarus.

Twenty-eight years ago, on July 27, 1990, the Supreme Council of the RSSB adopted a declaration on the sovereignty of states. A little less than a year later – August 25, 1991 – the document received constitutional status.

As historians have noted, it was the first stage of Soviet Belarus at the time. The date was officially celebrated from 1992 to 1996. During this period, the country received a new name, new state symbols, the constitution and the first president.

On September 19, 1991 a law was pbaded on the name of the republic. The country has received a new white-red-white flag and the coat of arms of Pogonya

The Soviet Union ceased to exist on 8 December 1991

15 March 1994 the new Constitution of the Republic of Belarus was adopted,

In 1996, the President of the country, Alexander Lukashenko, after the referendum postponed the holiday on July 3 – the day of the liberation of Minsk from the Nazis.

Initially, the former day of independence attempted to celebrate the activists and the opposition. On July 27, the date of July 27 did not become a milestone, such as the Day of the Will, on March 25.

Today, July 27, only historians and journalists remember it.
