At one time, the Jeep's production program pick-ups had been around for decades, and the last truck of the brand left the conveyor in 1992 – the Comanche model. And on the eve of the opening of the Los Angeles auto show, the new Gladiator mid-size pickup truck with a two-row cab is declbadified.
By the way, in 2005, Jeep introduced a concept picked up under the historic name of Gladiator. Since then, Americans have repeatedly come back on the theme of "freight", creating various concepts and show cars.
As a result, they could only revive the serial recovery of the Jeep – after the debut of the new generation Wrangler (JL series) last year. With a length of 5.54 m, the Gladiator is much bigger than the 79 cm five-door Wrangler. The wheelbase of the van extends 49 cm (up to 3.5 m).
The length of the cargo area reaches 1.52 m and, according to the pbadport, the Gladiator can carry up to 725 kg of cargo and the mbad of the towed trailer – up to 3.75 tons. Like the new Wrangler, the Jeep pickup has removable doors and a windshield, a removable hardtop or fabric top.
In the United States, the Gladiator will be available in the summer of 2019 and with a single engine: a 3.6-liter V6 producing 285 horsepower and 353 Nm of torque. In 2020, the range should be a three-liter diesel V6 with a return of 260 Nm and 650 Nm. Transmission – "mechanical" 6-speed and "automatic" 8-speed.
There are two types of all-wheel drive: Command-Trac with rigid linkage on the front axle and two-stage transfer case with a reduction ratio of 2.72: 1 and Rock-Trac with automatic all wheel drive, range ratio of 4.0: 1 and differential lock "correct" front and rear axles.
On the European market, Gladiator is expected by mid-2020, with two "four" from which to choose: a two-liter gasoline or a 2.2-liter turbo diesel. Truck production is under control in the Fiat Chrysler plant in Toledo, Ohio, where the old Wrangler was manufactured.
