Introduced in Los Angeles, the new Mazda 3 has received a brighter appearance and a new suspension. It has also become the first series model in the world to offer an engine that combines the advantages of the Otto and Diesel cycles.
In Los Angeles, the new compact Mazda model appeared in two ways at once: an 8 cm long sedan (up to 4.66 m) and a hatchback (4.46 m long), whose dimensions have remained almost unchanged. In both cases, the wheelbase has increased by 2.5 cm and now reaches 2.72 M. In the design of the bodywork of the troika, the share of grades of high-strength steel has increased from 3 to 30% .
The chbadis of the Mazda 3 has been completely reworked – the McPherson struts are still used at the front, but the multi-link layout has given way to a semi-dependent beam. In addition, the "troika" has acquired the exclusive i-Activ AWD all-wheel-drive system with rear wheel hitch. It works in conjunction with the G-Vectoring Control Plus system, which corrects for traction based on the steering angle and vehicle speed and generates cornering stabilization time.
The interior of the Mazda 3 has also changed: the elongated armrest has appeared, the developers promise improved ergonomics, visibility and sound insulation, and the list of auxiliary electronic components has expanded . By the way, the central screen of the multimedia complex is not as good as the current standards – 8.8 inches.
For the new sedan and tailgate declared a wide range of engines, but their exact characteristics of the Japanese have not yet given. These are the improved gasoline engines of the Skyactiv-G family with a volume of 1.5 liters, 2 liters and 2.5 liters, the new 1.8 liter Skyactiv-D diesel engine which on the CX-3 crossover, develops 115 horsepower, as well as Skyactiv-X high-tech unit, working on the SPCCI (Compression-Controlled Ignition) cycle, that is "controlled spark ignition ignition".
According to preliminary data, the new engine will have a power of 180 to 190 forces, and the economy will be at the level of a 1.5-liter diesel engine (as promised by the developers).
European dealers of the new Mazda 3 will appear in the spring of next year. An option with the new Skyactiv-X will arrive in summer. Prices are still unknown.
