Irish received two months in prison for a packet of chips

Kathleen McDonag from Cork, Ireland, opened a packet of Pringles chips at a Tesco store before paying them.

Previously, a 25-year-old woman was not allowed to appear in this shopping center by court order. At trial, she said that she had opened the package express – so that the store could not refuse to buy it. Instead of a pack of fries, she was sentenced to prison for deliberate damage to the goods, which can not be sold in this form.

Representatives of the prosecution told the judge that Mr. McDonag had already been sentenced to several terms, including theft and damage. A stack of tokens was maliciously opened two years ago, on December 27, 2016, at a shopping mall not far from McDonag's house.

In court, the police said that at that time, while she was going to the cashier self-service with a packet of Pringles, McDonag was forbidden to appear in this mall and local workers knew her well.

When a store security officer approached her to get her out of the mall, she opened the unhappy wrap, ripping the movie.

The guard confirmed in court that the woman had told him, "I opened it for you to let me pay."

"After that, the product was no longer subject to the sale and the store suffered a loss of one and a half euro," he told the judge, adding that even though the woman had expressed the desire to pay for chips, she was not allowed to be in the store.

McDonag's lawyers appealed to the court of indulgence, citing the fact that she had just got married, that she was pregnant and acknowledged her guilt. However, the judge decided to sentence her to four months' imprisonment, two of which were suspended. The court ruled that the defendant had voluntarily opened the package when the guard had asked him to leave the store.
