Reliability issues with Russian Ka-52 helicopters have forced Egypt to turn to the United States for the Apache AH-64E, reports the Defense blog. Cairo intends to acquire ten US attack helicopters, for which they have 24 engines, spare parts and other equipment.
The problems with the Ka-52 are mainly of a technical nature. In hot climates, the Russian alligator engine loses power. There are malfunctions of avionics, navigation systems and night vision, whose unreliable operation can lead to emergency situations.
Until now, Egypt has twelve Ka-52 helicopters. In total, under the 2015 contract, Cairo wanted to acquire 46 such machines.
