Montenegro will start offering foreign citizenship for investment

The Montenegrin authorities have announced the launch of a program to obtain citizenship of the republic through investments. Information about the state program is posted on the official website of the Government of Montenegro.

Foreigners will be able to apply for a Republic Pbadport since October of this year. Potential investors will be offered several sponsorship options. Among them – an investment of 450 thousand euros in projects approved by the government in the developed regions of the country or infusion of 250 000 euros in projects in less developed regions.

Only 2 thousand foreign citizens will be able to obtain a pbadport as investors first three years of the program. One month after the submission of the application, the participants in the program will receive the status of permanent resident of Montenegro and six months later the nationality of the country.

According to data published on the website of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), 2017 GDP of $ 11.010 billion, according to this indicator, the country ranks 160th in the world. The GDP growth rate last year was set at 4.4%. GDP per capita is $ 17,400

As stated in the CIA material, the Government of Montenegro recognizes the need to remove economic barriers in order to remain a competitive state and open an economy to foreign investors. Direct net investment by foreign citizens and corporations is $ 848 million in 2017. Among the largest investors are Norway, Russia, Italy, Azerbaijan and Hungary.
