An anonymous professional photographer told Nikonrumors.com resource preparation of the Japanese company to test the new Nikon D6 report camera. The company has registered the D6, D7, D8 and D9 brands since 2016. It should be noted that Nikon will break with the usual course of events and will probably miss the Nikon D5.
Most likely, the camera will be available before the 2020 Olympics, but the company will announce early in 2019 at the CES in Las Vegas. The first samples will be tested by professionals in February 2019.

Nikon fans point out that the Nikon D850's sensor would suffice, and that a burst rate of 13-14 frames per second would certainly not be a problem for the flagship product.
Nikon is also actively developing a line of Z-line mirrorless cameras and will update the optics for a mirrorless design.
