The Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate did not approve Tomos' text for the Ukrainian Orthodox Autocephalous Church and did not set a date for the Unification Cathedral. At the same time, Constantinople prepared a preliminary draft statute for the future Ukrainian church. This is stated in the final communiqué of the synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.

"In the context of a decision previously pbaded by the Ecumenical Patriarchate to grant autocephaly to the Church of Ukraine and pending the publication of the patriarchate and the Synodal Thomos, the Most Holy and Holy Synod drafted the Constitutional Charter of the Ukrainian Church, "the document says.

Once the document is approved, the Ukrainian clergy should meet at the Unification Council and choose their primate.

At the same time, the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, said that the Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate had approved the text of Tomos for the Ukrainian Church and that the date of the Council of Bishops of the Unification would soon be announced by the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.

"A historic decision has been made to create an autocephalous Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Tomos' text on the granting of the independence of the Ukrainian Church has been approved. Also decided to convene the cathedral of the unification. The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew will announce shortly the date of its holding, "said the head of state.

Recall that in early October, the patriarchate of Constantinople announced the launch of the process of granting autocephaly to the church of Ukraine. It also abolished the anathema and all prohibitions imposed by the Russian Orthodox Church on the Kiev Patriarchate (UOC-KP) and by the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (UAOC), establishing a canonical dialogue with them.

After that, the COR announced a break of Eucharistic communion with Constantinople. The Holy Synod concluded that the Patriarchate of Constantinople, after making such a decision, had self-liquidated as a coordinating center of Orthodoxy. Patriarch Bartholomew ROC recognized the schismatic.

The decision of the OCR was supported by the Belarussian Orthodox Church and by the Russian Orthodox Church outside of Russia.
