They say that they do it in the United States and South Korea. First toys, then the series – to avoid additional expenses. Sergey explained how much effort the creation of the cartoon Made in Belarus was worth. In terms of business – yes, everything is very cool. And what about parental care? What kind of cartoons and when do I show kids? We asked child psychologist Alina Tolkach to talk about this issue.
"They gave € 20,000 to go to Cannes"
– How many of you are in a team?
– We do everything with a minimum of strength: we are now five.
– Well, five men sit down and suddenly decide to draw cartoons.
– It was a little fake. It all started in 2011. Before that, the guys and I were exclusively engaged in advertising. Many have focused on 3D animation, have tried production. Then the technology was not distributed as it was. It was necessary to make the first videos for hours.
So we started in 2011 to work closely with 5D cinemas. Four sit, put on glbades, the platform moves, a lot of emotions at the exit. Under them and began to create 3D movies. We did well and quickly, they sold well and quickly. In principle, everyone was happy. Gradually, several films were born for children.
In parallel, I ran a toy sales business. So he had no idea what, say, Smeshariki and animation in general. Not really interested in her. It was clear that licensed branded toys were selling better.
At the same time, we realized that the market in which we were working in 3D would soon collapse. "Soon" arrived even earlier than expected. In 2014, the Russian ruble collapsed. In my opinion, this crisis is the most specific of all. Almost all our content was bought by Russians.
We had already filmed three series of the series "Robiki". For some reason, it was an adventurous decision to take off at Cannes. Popiar a little.
In principle, we were the only Belarusians. They removed the stand, introduced their own product, tried to establish links.
Yes, you can just come to Cannes and break down. There would be money. We paid about 20,000 euros for the exhibition space, but that did not pay off. There was simply no one to ask. When we arrived there, we saw that, for example, the Russian "Film Foundation" paid the booth to all the Russian animators. They have a separate tent, where representatives of Russian studios are installed and negotiate. This is happening centrally. In other words, each studio does not have to pay separately 20 "pieces" per stand.
Although it is clear that the "Film Fund" wins. And our Ministry of Culture is not there.
Although we learned a lot in Cannes. For example, they understood that it was useless to come with an unfinished product. Coming without a major partner – also makes no sense. A great partner is made up of relationships and personal experiences, and they are always expensive. If you've talked to big players at a coffee break, that does not mean you're guaranteed to work with them.
After Cannes, we ended up in negotiations with the Central Partnership to discuss the sale of our Robiki with a feature film. The project is three million. One and a half had to be found by us. A year and a half – they. They have networks, they have connections, they have cinemas. By entering into a partnership with the Central Partnership, we would solve many problems.
And yes, three million dollars for a full 3D movie, it's total money for production and marketing. And that's very little.
In parallel, we wanted to submit a project with a TV show to the Russian Ministry of Culture. But that did not work on the hardware part. The course is very difficult and the Russians continued to count everything in their own currency. And it turned out that the price of our work went down twice, which, of course, did not please us at all.
– What does it mean to drive the caricature to the Russian Ministry of Culture for money?
– We must understand that Belarus and Russia are different stories. The neighbors have thematic channels. This is the first. Second, these thematic channels, created in principle by major players in the television sector. The channels "Mult" and "Carousel" immediately opened their animation studio.
In Belarus, the situation is different. At the height of the crisis, I hit our Ministry of Culture with new very promising scenarios. Roughly speaking, I participated in the grants competition. I was offered a 13 minute format. We then met Driga and explained that this format is not suitable for TV channels. It's 11 minutes or 22 minutes, because it all depends on the grid of ad units.
In general, we were served twice. Participated with Belarusfilm. Naturally lost. One of the conditions for registration of the application was that the company producing the design must be at least five years old. The situation was funny. We were five on October 5th. And the envelopes opened on the 4th.
From the second time, we pbaded the first step. But it turns out that our scripts did not attract attention.
As a result, they do not agree with the Russians, do not receive a subsidy from the Belorussians and continue to do the drawing themselves. And completed. We sold Russian rights to Karusel to China, although we still have not dropped the Chinese version, nor to a number of private airlines. I think the result could have been better, but we were wrong with the distribution partner.
– And what did you live on?
– Returned to advertising. We are fine there. Some movies, some presentations.
– And after that, did you rely on these caricatures?
– There are people who want to build a house, grow a tree.

– Somehow. I do not like to build a house. But the cartoon is a product that will last for years. The animation lives the longest. Not that vanity. When I called people to form the first team, they said to me: "In Belarus, many people have tried, but I do not think it will work." I misunderstood. Decided to do it.
I had the idea to create a series with the Belarusian forces. One of the main mistakes.
Ideally, you need about ten people to work on the animated series. We finished the last four episodes with five. I had an animator, a visualizer, he was a composer, producer, director and another animator. I controlled what was going on. The guys downplayed and delayed the salaries. The task was to "die, but do." People have entered it.
– Did you win something?
– no We have lost a lot, it is difficult to calculate how much. I consider lost profit. If they had an agreement with Central Partnership, there would be another million. And so they worked without him and sat on bread.
In 2015, we finished the first series.
In 2016, they understood what had gone wrong.
In the end, we realized we had to go from one to the other. Americans and Koreans have broken the approach to animation. They do as follows. Go first to the toy manufacturer: "Show a popular toy you would like to bet on."
When we finished the "Robics", we also started to get involved with toy manufacturers. It has turned out that the creation of high quality toys based on the series involves the manufacture of molds for around $ 300,000, that is, the factory is extremely profitable.
Therefore, it is more correct to "move" the toys in TV shows. This is an advertisement of their products.
That 's how we left the opposite. On "Polesie", I was the first eight years ago. Very surprised by the cleanliness. He is a machine operator by forming a wide profile. That's right, I started with the Russians. It seemed to me that they would be better prepared for our proposal. I would not have to explain for a long time. – Why is the website of your cartoon on the Russian domain? Such a desire to drive him to the neighbors?
– Yesterday, we talked with representatives of the channel "Mult". This particular channel is only for Russian animation. I have tried to explain that on our project, the director and the composer are Russians. And in general, the State of the Union. But no. The problem is that there is the EU and the Russian Federation. And we are in the middle. Belarus and not there, and not there. Because we have to adapt to Russia. There is more audience.

Every week we publish a series on the channel. Now there are 20. We complete the rest. I watch the promotion of our drawing on Instagram and I see that we are actively looking in Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. On these countries and should be guided. – The Moral and Ethical Moment: Do you understand that your goal is to make money from parents who can not refuse their children?

"Cartoons must be shown to a child from 3 years old"
Alina Tolkach, a child psychologist and English teacher at the "Alternativa" private school, explained what place cartoons occupy and why they are needed.

It is important to teach children the basic physical actions: rolling a typewriter, opening and closing the hoods, lifting objects, and so on.
At this time, many parents are already beginning to introduce cartoons into a child's life. Here it is advisable to ask again: "Why? What is my goal? " Physical movements, various manipulations of objects (jar games, collectible games, etc.) are much more important for a child than watching cartoons, whose history is not yet fully conscious.

For this you must learn a lot and continue to learn. Effective communication with others and with yourself is the core skill of anyone who wishes to find the right balance and state of harmony. And for that, you must know how to act in different situations, for example.

It is only important to monitor the duration of the caricature. No need for a four year old to watch cartoons non-stop.
