"We recently" killed "48 international agreements [с РФ]but they must be treated with great care, in the context where the fact that we "keep" these agreements does not harm our Ukrainian citizens. The next batch will be very fast – about 40 agreements, "said the Ukrainian diplomat.

He noted that Kiev fundamentally revised the overall bilateral legal framework with the Russian Federation. "Everything that existed before the war (until 2014) does not make sense by definition," said Klimkin.

The contractual basis of Russian-Ukrainian relations consisted of 375 documents. The action of some of them has been stopped in recent years because of the armed conflict in the Donbbad and the entrance of Crimea in the Russian Federation.

On September 24, Russia received an official note from Kiev on the non-renewal of the Treaty of Friendship.

The Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Partnership between Ukraine and the Russian Federation was signed in May 1997 and entered into force in April 1999 for a period of 10 years, renewable automatically for ten years. next few years, in the absence of objections from the parties.

"Unnecessary diplomatic relations"

Klimkin also said that he was in favor of ending diplomatic relations with Russia, but the fact that there are a lot of Ukrainians on the territory of the Russian Federation is an obstacle.

"Personally and emotionally, we do not need diplomatic relations with the Russian Federation," he said, adding that he supported the introduction of a biometric scheme with Russia, but what is the question of who will deliver the visas? "Honestly, I say that I've already spoken to some countries and that I know the answer <…> The answer is that they can actually serve as mailboxes when transferring certain documents and nothing more, "he said.

At the same time, the Ukrainian Minister added that currently, there are nearly 3.5 million Ukrainians in Russia, an increase in the crossing of the Ukrainian-Russian border is observed.

Diplomatic relations between the Russian Federation and Ukraine were established on February 14, 1992. The initiative for their breakup was repeatedly raised by a number of Ukrainian political forces.

The representative of the President of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, to the Verkhovna Rada, Irina Lutsenko, in March 2018, said that the break in diplomatic relations between countries in the future is possible, but that the moment has not come yet. The head of state himself also did not support initiatives to break them.
