VR headset manufacturers decided to connect them via USB Type-C

The consortium, which includes companies such as NVIDIA, Oculus, Valve, AMD, and Microsoft, has adopted the VirtualLink standard for connecting external virtual reality devices. This is the USB Type-C interface. Among those whose participation was expected, but did not occur, are Intel and Sony.

The USB Type-C will be the only cable needed to connect VR headsets and other devices. This unification is good by a single standard, and also by getting rid of the "extra" threads.

The technical characteristics of VirtualLink are not announced yet, it is reported only that the connection will use a USB Type-C alternative mode, which achieves the required data transfer rate.

VirtualLink is intended to be used exclusively for VR devices
