Will be quiet. Like among the swamps several monks restore the old monastery

[ad_1]

The Lavryshevsky Monastery was lost somewhere between flowering meadows, impenetrable swamps and small villages in Novogrudok district. From them the complex is separated by a narrow, but already fast Neman. The only connection with the outside world is a wobbly wooden bridge. The restoration of one of the oldest monasteries in Belarus began more than 10 years ago when two monks came to the swamps. Since then, a lot has changed. And the villages around the monastery are dying, as before, you can not name exactly.

The St. Eliseevsky Lavrushevsky Monastery is mentioned in the Ipatiev Chronicle. It was the center of Belorussian writing and a major religious complex. It was destroyed several times and the following restoration only began in 2006. Now, it is a small monastery, which quickly became very popular with pilgrims

"On the river of Nemna, the borders of Lithuania and the new city "

Historians still argue where this first monastery was. The modern is located near the village of Gnesichi, which is about 10 kilometers from the town of Lavrishevo, where, according to scientists, an old building should have stood. Archaeological excavations are done here every year. In 2016, found, for example, two previously unknown sarcophagus. The archaeological expedition has cleared the underground structure of Holy Dormition Church and has fallen on a crypt with burials. There were remains of people and objects of worship in the sarcophagi.

It is here that the original monastery was originally built – an open question. In the Chronic Ipatiev it is written simply "On the river on Nemna, the borders between Lithuania and the New City."

"And the riverbed was a little different at that time," says the monk Seraphim . He lives in the monastery from the beginning of his restoration, when the first abbot Lazar arrived here. Seraphim has been sent to help him. Now he runs the monastery house in the village of Lavryshevo, which is located in the building of the old children's garden. His monks received local authorities.

 – What's wrong? He says casually.

He does not want to talk about digging at first, waving his hand, grumbling that his opinion is of no interest to anyone. Then, however, he shares his thoughts. Say, where there is a modern monastery, there was an old one. And a point. What to discuss?
Then he tells the story of the next restoration of the monastery.

When the monks came here on a strip of dry land between the marshes, there were only a few buildings and a small church. The monks first lived in tents and then, after having repaired the village houses, installed them there. In 2008, they burned: a short circuit. It was necessary to start all over again.

At the same time, documents were prepared for the monastery to obtain official status. Have issued. During all this time, construction work was done in the complex. And now the House of Mercy, a large church, a summer church, a fountain, a door with church benches have appeared. Every day, some dozens of pilgrims come to the monastery, who are fed and given during the night if necessary.

 – About 50 people cook each day, – says one of the priests who serves in the monastery.

monks and several novices. From time to time pilgrims join them. There are 30 people in total.

Kira's Baptism and Sunday School for Local Children

Every summer, believers come to the monastery to organize children's camps. The monks do not occupy it. They themselves are not lagging behind. Organize a Sunday school for local kids, collecting on bus kiddies in the neighborhood every weekend. Now here is the baptism for all comers on the Neman. And the ceremony was completely free.

 – Hello, can someone else be baptized? So welcome, – the clergyman conscientiously bypbades the people who were piling on a wooden bridge, so that's the best place to watch the service and the sacrament. All adults have been baptized.

But little Kira – no. The girl comes from Slonim. He says, smiling, that his parents did not have time to baptize, and then she was in the foster home. Not before baptism. Kira came to the monastery with the camp of Orthodox children. For several days he has been living with his friends in a tent. At Slonim, she goes to Sunday school. And so I decided that I should be baptized, especially since everything is so unusual.

– I thought all of this would be in the police, but it turned out that it was in the river, – she said. Of course, he is worried. But all the service stands under the burning sun, the priest listens attentively, and when she is dipped three times in the water, she loses all her seriousness and laughs with relief. On the bridge, the girl is applauded

The service on the bank of the Neman was timed for the 1030th anniversary of the baptism of Rus. We put a temporary altar, decorated with flowers. This Saturday in quiet Gnesichi – noisy.

However, as local people say, the flow of people does not falter. Already accustomed to the popularity of this region. Note: Recently in the surrounding villages, the city began buying plots and old houses. They come here most often from Grodno and Minsk. And pilgrims from all over Belarus. Groups from Russia, Poland and Ukraine enter.

– Do not put a car here, yours will come soon, – a sleeping man comes out of the window of the car. After a while, the roadside is already full of cars. People drive all the time while the service is running.

The first volunteers – former prisoners

The surrounding villages and the monastery have a second birth. In Lavrishevo, the monks organized a farm with a refectory, a library, a museum and rooms for pilgrims. Anyone can come to the monastery: there is work for everyone. Accommodation and simple meals will be provided.

 – We had at first a contingent of worries – former prisoners. They were looking for comfort here or something. All have long deadlines. Probably not found because over time they did not leave. Where did they go? I do not know Maybe they've sat down again. These are not bad people, but you have to be careful with them. For example, pick up words when you speak. You can be in trouble, "says Seraphim. Finally, he goes around the courtyard.

The building still needs repairs, but the monks say that everything has its time. It is recalled that the monastery exists mainly for donations. It is not so long ago, organized the sale of products that are made in the monastery. In the shop you can buy handmade soaps, herbal collections, bread made with special ferment, kvbad.

But you can go to the museum for free

Here you can find antique folios, church utensils and icons of different religions. The fact is that the old wooden church of Lavrishevo never closed, unlike the temples of the surrounding villages. There, icons and various utensils were simply thrown away.

The local transported all this to Lavrishevo. When the church was given to the monks, it turned out that the orthodox icons of the temple were objects of worship Uniates and Catholics.

"You can not destroy everything," says Seraphim. Thus in the museum of the monastery there were unique paintings of the XVIII and XIX centuries. All icons are in pretty good condition. And there are some old gospels.

However, there is not the same Lavrachevski. A famous gospel was written in 1329, but in the nineteenth century he was brought to Poland.

In 2009, the issue of the return of Lavrishiv's gospel was raised in Belarus. However, later, at the Ministry of Culture, they specified that it was to transfer a copy of the publication to Belarus. At the same time, the publishing house of the Belarusian exarchate planned to release the facsimile of the Lavryshev gospel, but all of this is still in the plans. In the monastery museum there are only photographs of the ancient book that Serafim proudly displays.

 – See what colors, what quality of representation, he says.

There are also books from the Khreptovichi Library in Shchorsy. Seraphim sighs: most valuable specimens have been burned. But something has been brought to the monks.

30 chapels and their own traditions

Hegumen Eusebius, who came here 12 years ago, runs the monastery.
Seraphim remembers that it was hard at the beginning. There was no one to serve. Hegumen was then both a sacristan and a choir. Over the years, the population of the monastery has increased. There were both singers and readers. Then they decided that building a monastery would not be chaotic, but would develop a plan. The truth of the original project had to be abandoned and others to redo it. They wanted to build a big temple in the middle of the monastery's territory, but they found a bomb at the beginning of the last century by digging a foundation pit. They blew it right there, covering it with a special beanie.

 – The earth fell and found on this place – the "sand float" – can not be built. Therefore, we had to rebuild our little church, "says Seraphim.

<figure clbad= Photo: Katerina Gordeeva, TUT.BY

Monks have their own traditions. For example, every night, they walk around the monastery with the procession of the cross and, in summer, they gather with all the people around the fire. They talk, discuss not only spiritual, but also material – how to build a monastery, where to take money for construction, because in the plans on the territory of the complex to build more than 30 drops. And they want this baptism in the Neman to become traditional and that more people come here that day

– So we will build the monastery, – they say.
